Formerly, The Shenandoah River Inn
This historic victorian farmhouse, circa 1810, formerly served as the stagecoach inn and for weary travelers crossing the Shenandoah River. Situated on four private, riverfront acres between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains, this magnificent property provides the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, a retreat to nature or a family vacation.
Three of the bedrooms have their own working fireplace, queen or king-sized bed and private bath. The fourth bedroom has a private stairway, a vaulted ceiling, king bed and french doors to a small porch overlooking the rapids, a king bed and a private bath; it is available to large groups upon request and for an extra fee of $100. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The reading/tv room is cozy and warm, with white clapboard walls, built-in bookshelves, a wood burning fireplace and cable television with VCR/DVD. There are two enclosed porches -- an upper and a lower -- as well as a 20 X 24 ft. sunroom with wall-to-wall wrap-around windows offering amazing views of the river, the base of the mountains and the nearby farms. It features a large gas fireplace and also contains an antique dining table that seats approximately 8-10 people.
All rooms are furnished in country antique with and oriental rugs. Nearly all of the floors are original wide-board and random-width pine, and have been recently restored.
There is lawn furniture, an outdoor barbeque pit overlooking the water, a barbeque grill, outdoor tables, and outdoor bonfire pit and a six- person outdoor Jacuzzi Spa on the brink of the river.
There are numerous out-door activities at your disposal. This particular property is well known as one of the premier bass fishing spots in the area, given its location at the base of the small rapids. The river, which may be accessed by a small footpath, is also deep enough for swimming. Kayaking, rafting and canoeing are acessible from the put in just across the road. All boats may be rented from the Shehandoah River Outfitters about 5 miles away ...Downhill skiing at Massanutten Mountain is only a half-hour away by car... The fishing -- which can be done right from your own private river bank -- is said to be the very best in the area, due to the fact that the property is located right at the small rapids where bass tend to lay their eggs ... There are numerous hiking trails across the Appalachian Trail, as well as cross-country skiing and mountain biking trails all across the Shenandoah and Masenutten mountains . . . Less srenuous activities include visiting Luray Caverns, the local zoo or the numerous antique shops nearby ... or just sitting back and watching the eagles, ospreys and blue herons soar from point to point on the water. And of course there is always the outdoor Jacuzzi spa just outside the house which overlooks the river and farmland.
