Built in 1901 by a lumber baron, this vintage log home shines with the ambiance of yesteryear elegance. The hand-hewn wood floors, walls, and ceilings, along with original wavy glass windows, antique furnishings and chandeliers, a magnificent stone fireplace, and two river-front covered porches re-create a gracious era when the wealthy journeyed to the river for a quality vacation experience. Located on Westside Road, this home has the best possible location for wine-tasting: there are dozens of fine wineries on this road alone.
Hess Lodge retains its vintage appeal with a 1938 Wedgewood stove, but the kitchen functions well for modern-day cooking as well. There is a separate dining room, with river view, opening to a very spacious great room, featuring high-beamed ceilings and four chandeliers, along with a piano. This room has two comfortable seating areas: one focused on the 54" flatscreen television with VCR/DVD, the other on the fireplace, which has an insert with glass doors. French doors open to a covered porch the length of the house with deck furniture, including a wicker settee. There is a half bath on this floor. Wireless high-speed Internet allows those with laptops to stay connected.
Downstairs are three bedrooms, two with queen beds, one with a double, and a bathroom with shower and claw-foot tub. These bedrooms open to a covered deck with river view.
To one side of the house are two decks, one with a six-person hot tub, the other with a gas barbecue and patio dining set.
To the other side is a utility shed with washer and dryer.
On the river side, there is a long series of stairs, first going to a riverbank deck with built-in benches and then proceeding down to shallow water access. There is a large beach (Hacienda Beach) just a five minute walk down the road and a three minute drive to Steelhead Beach and Burke's Canoes. There is a small market within walking distance, just over the Hacienda Bridge. There is no sound of road noise in the home, but in the outdoor areas, as with most river homes, there is road noise from the other side of the river.
