Property Information
The Jonesport community is a small fishing village that has a year round population of nearly 1500. Despite its small size, Jonesport has several dining options, gift shops, a bakery and boat tours are available.
Pomp Island is a privately owned island. The island is yours for your entire vacation. However, to reach the island, you must either bring or rent a boat to travel the short water distance, or we can arrange for a lobsterman to shuttle you over. There is a mooring at the island that can hold up to a 18 foot long boat, and there is a skiff on the island to get from the mooring to shore. The island is close enough to the main land that you can kayak over as well.
Pomp Island isn’t for everyone. If you are looking to get away without traveling far, if you want to bond with your family and enjoy nature at it’s best – then Pomp Island is for you. The island is full of nature. There are plenty of birds including Hawks, Osprey, Bald Eagles. A pair of Bald Eagles have been seen nesting in year’s past.
Take an early morning walk every day as the sun rises and watch the nature of the island come to life. Visit the shore where about 1/4 of a mile off Pomp is a rock where Harbor Seals congregate and are great fun to observe.
The wonderful 3 bedroom log cabin is very comfortable and has everything you need to enjoy your vacation on an island. All the appliances are gas. So, you do have refrigeration, cooking, and, lights. Keep warm if needed with a wood stove. There is a 300 gallon tank that collects rain water for toilet flushing and limited short showers.
Having kayaks with you on Pomp Island is a must. There are many small islands nearby to investigate and picnic on, each having slightly different plants, rock formations, small beaches, and inlets. When the mackerel (fish) come around, usually in August, they are plentiful. So, you will need to bring a fishing pole as well.
There are wild deer are on the island. Bring some apples and get up and close with them.
Clamming is possible at low tide, or flag down a lobsterman returning from his day's work and buy the freshest lobsters possible.
Pomp Island is on the way home for many lobster boats and it is interesting to watch them leave and return full throttle to beat each other to the seller.
Be sure to bring your favorite books, writing or art projects.
We also have a private helicopter service for anyone that may need it for emergencies or to provide some siteseeing up and down the the rocky Midcoast.
