Property Information
Beaver Creek Lodge is a totally restored 1400 sq. ft. country house, and as with our other lodge - the Oswegatchie River lodge (FindRentals.com #24929), it is rented as a single unit. The entire house is yours. It is located along the extraordinarily beautiful banks of Beaver Creek, right in the heart of Amish Country in St. Lawrence County, within the vast watershed area of the Adirondack mountains.

Its very private and quiet setting, nestled between rock cliffs and Beaver Creek, provides a perfect place to rest and relax while at the same time be just a short drive to Canton, Gouverneur, Black Lake, Thousand Islands and the St. Lawerence River, Canada, and the Adirondack Park. It is a 20 minute drive to SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University and just a little further for SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University. We are much more than a cabin or cottage. We are a retreat. Between the slow pace set by the Amish and the quiet beauty of nature, you will find Beaver Creek Lodge to be a place where you can unwind from the rat race of modern civilization.

The two bedroom lodge has all cathedral ceilings, an additional open sleeping loft, a large well equipped kitchen with many of the basic staples you need for cooking, and enough breakfast food to get you started the next morning after arrival. The large 16'x30' great room has been combined with a new sun room that has almost entirely glass walls and sliding doors that go out to a deck, all overlooking the stunning Beaver Creek landscape, hills and distant farms.

As with the Oswegatchie River Lodge, the post and plank farmhouse was totally abandoned and lay in ruin. We purchased and completely restored the property. Our company, ANTIQUE WOODS AND COLONIAL RESTORATIONS, has been restoring colonial homes and barns for almost 35 years now and we proud to bring this wonderful home back to life and create a new use for it. If you are a "Green" follower, you will be happy to know almost the entire house has been recycled.

A short distance from the deck is a 50 foot walk-bridge that leads you to the banks of the Beaver creek and a panoramic view of literally miles of marsh , wetlands and pine forest that Beaver creek meanders through. You will also find a dock there to fish from, cross country ski from, or take one of the most beautiful and peaceful private kayak rides of your life.

The late 1800's country house (originally part of a small farm) has been totally restored under the direction of Dale Lehmer and his wife Sophie. They used vintage lumbers and skills gained over Dale's 30-year experience in the restoration of early barns and homes all across America with his company Antique Woods and Colonial Restorations.

The upstairs has a medium-sized Master Bedroom with a Queen bed and closet, an open loft with railing to the great room downstairs that has a full size sofa sleeper, and a separate sitting room with a sofa, easy chair and reading lamps. All the upstairs rooms have cathedral ceilings and have knee-walls and ceilings clad in new 12-inch wide white pine boards. The upstairs rooms are not huge, but very comfortable, clean and cozy.

The downstairs has a large country kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, and full set of dishes, pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, silverware etc. The downstairs also has a small bedroom with a full size bed. The kitchen and great room have antique cypress on the walls. The sun room has a Comfort Glow gas stove to nestle by on cold winter nights. The bedrooms and great room have air conditioning. We also have Direct TV with VCR and DVD player and have a large selection of movies, many for children and the whole family. Phone and internet access available. Bring your own computer.

The farmhouse has a bathroom on the first floor with a shower- Jacuzzi/tub, sink and toilet. All the downstairs rooms have open beam ceilings. You will find many different kinds of vintage woods incorporated into the restoration of the Beaver Creek House. All the antique floors have been refinished. The exterior of the house has been done with antique reclaimed, extremely weathered cypress and is shaded by two very large and stately white pine trees. The house sits well off a small country road, we have a very large yard with many flowers, shrubs and trees and it is a very safe area for children.

Many of the furnishings of the farmhouse have been custom made with antique lumbers gleaned from old barns and houses. We sell a line of "farmhouse furnishings" and you will see many of these pieces here.

    Property Activities
You will see and hear many friendly Amish folks with their horse and buggies going over the iron grate bridge that abuts our property. You can also take a short drive or a bike ride to shop at the numerous Amish road side produce stands that are around the area. This is not a rich tourist area like Lancaster County, PA, with mostly nicely painted farms. These are real working farms and these most conservative Old Order Amish are eking out a living from the earth in the most ingenious ways. There are no tour buses here, but if you want to see more of the Amish community, a local Amish man will give you a tour in his buggy.
