SAILS AND SUNSETS
Great new, spacious, pristine cottage - great sought-after location - spectacular view!
Sails and Sunsets is located on the East Side, one mile south of Keuka Village and across from Bluff Point. This is the widest place on Keuka Lake, with panoramic views of all three branches. Long after the sunset has faded, star gazers will be thrilled and rewarded by the brilliance of the night sky visible from the field behind the cottage. Such a sight is only possible in locations such as ours, where there is little light pollution, and where the sky is big and open.
The Keuka Yacht Club is also directly across the lake, so guests will be able to enjoy watching sailboat races on Saturdays and Sundays. When the wind is right, the billowing multicolored spinnaker sails will proceed right past your cottage.
The water becomes deep gradually, which is important for young swimmers. Those who are seeking exercise will appreciate the quiet country road, which goes uphill three miles directly behind the cottage. This leads to miles of gravel and quiet paved roads for those who wish to bicycle. The quiet lake frontage roads are perfect for leisurely strolls, and the Keuka Outlet trail with its many waterfalls is another beautiful place to bicycle. For the times when you just want to relax, this cottage provides many cozy places to curl up with a good book.
Restaurants with lakeside dining are within one to two miles, depending on whether you choose to go by car or by boat. The walk-out basement opens to the lower deck, measures a spacious 25 X 50 feet, and offers many amenities! If you have a rainy day, don’t despair, because there is plenty of room for youngsters to romp and play. A ping pong table, extra futon, and table and chairs to play a variety of games (provided of course) should keep them entertained. You will have two decks to choose between - one in the sun and one in the shade - both with a full view of the lake. Every room had been newly furnished, and many of the pieces are handcrafted by local Mennonites. One of the bedrooms features a hand-hewn lodge pole pine bedroom suite.
Places to visit while you are at the lake include the charming villages of Hammondsport and Penn Yan, the glen at Watkins Glen, the famous Windmill Flea Market, the many Mennonite owned and operated produce stands (watch for them in their stately horse and buggies), the Glen Curtis Museum of Aviation in Hammondsport, the Corning Museum of Glass, and of course the wineries. For those who like to golf, there are two golf courses, a nine hole and an eighteen hole course within three and ten miles of the cottage respectively.
