Located just above the quaint and historical town of Hilo on the east side of the Big Island, Anam Cara is a lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage located on 7 glorious cool acres owned by our good Irish friends, Keith And Leona who with their children and various animals also reside on the property. Keith and Leona who relocated to the Big Island from Ireland several years ago will welcome you with open arms. They named their cottage, Anam Cara which comes from the Celtic language and means Soul Friend, a Place where You are Understood, and most importantly, You Are at Home. These lovely folks have created a beautiful and environmentally sound cottage which is set up totally green with electricity being created through solar energy.
Enjoy the breathtaking ocean and Hilo Bay views from the front lanai. The cottage has been lovingly constructed for those who are definitely looking to take in the sights, sounds and the beauty of the Big Island. With its quiet and rural surroundings, now may be the time to start that book that you have always wanted to read while gazing into the beautiful blue skies of Hawaii.
Anam Cara is located just a short 10 minute drive to the historic town of Hilo where you will find colorful and fun farmer’s markets where the local trade comes out to sell their beautiful tropical flowers, luscious fruits and vegetables and show off their local crafts and talents. From Hilo, you can travel up the north road to see beautiful waterfalls and breathtaking mountains and vistas or south to the ever changing Volcanoes National Park where Mother Earth is constantly changing and creating new land with the most recent lava flows! Enjoy Richardson Beach right in Hilo town or head down the SE coast to Kapoho where the snorkeling here is said to be the best in the entire island chain. And don’t miss the Ahalanui Warm Spring Park. A geothermally heated 91 degree swimming pond at the ocean’s edge that is perfect for the entire family.
